On a trip to Florida and back with our travel trailer, my wife and I stopped for a couple of days in Hot Springs, Arkansas. While there I decided to see how far it was to Dan's Whetstones and Novaculite quarries. I'd passed along a few flintknappers queries about Novaculite to Steve Kirschman, son of the owner of Dan's Whetstnes and figured I'd see if I could talk my way into a visit if it was close. Turns out it was within 25 minutes of where we were staying and Steve cordially invited us to visit the whetstone operations. The quarry was closed (as well as another 45 minutes away, so we decided to just visit the manufacturing facility.
